New Painting Series - No. 1 & 2

My current body of work consists of self portraits painted on 24" x 24" wooden panels covered with salvaged wallpaper. While working on these, the vintage patterns and musty smell of the paper give me a wonderful sense of nostalgia. Most of the paper that I've found is already open, so it's intriguing to imagine why the original owners chose each particular pattern. The process of finding the paper, building the panels, and then placing the old forgotten paper on the new panels, is intensely gratifying. Not only is it giving me an opportunity to paint in a different context, but its bringing an entirely new purpose to the paper. The titles are still in progress, but for now, here are the first two in the series:
